How is my biological age calculated?

BioAge uses an 8-pillar algorithm computed entirely on your device. The core pillars are Blood Markers (35%), Sleep (25%), HRV (25%), and Stress (15%). Bonus pillars — Cardiovascular, Reaction Time (12%), Grip Strength (9%), and Gait (2%) — refine the score when data is available. Each pillar compares your values to science-based reference ranges and computes a year delta. Missing pillars are excluded and weights are redistributed proportionally, so the score always reflects the data you actually have.

Where is my health data stored?

All personal data is stored locally on your device — in the iOS Keychain and SwiftData database. Nothing is uploaded to any server or synced to iCloud.

How do AI insights work?

When you request an insight, BioAge sends only anonymous numeric scores (not your name, date of birth, or raw values) to the Anthropic Claude API. Claude generates a personalized coaching message based on those scores and your selected health goals.

Why does BioAge need access to Apple Health?

BioAge requests read-only access to sleep analysis, HRV, resting heart rate, and blood oxygen from Apple Health. This lets you import your existing health data with one tap instead of entering everything manually. You can also enter all data manually without granting Health access.

What does the confidence level mean?

Confidence reflects how many pillars are logged. With all 5 pillars logged, you get "High confidence." Fewer pillars means "Medium" or "Low" confidence, and a completeness penalty is applied to the score to avoid overstating accuracy.

What is Daily Auto-Import?

Daily Auto-Import (Settings → Data → Daily Auto-Import) lets BioAge access Apple HealthKit once per day in the background to pull your latest sleep and HRV data automatically — no manual import needed. It is opt-in and disabled by default. Requires "Background App Refresh" to be enabled for BioAge in iOS Settings → General → Background App Refresh. iOS may delay or skip background refreshes based on battery and network conditions.

How do I delete my data?

Go to Settings → Privacy → "Delete All My Data" to permanently remove your profile, all health snapshots, and all cached scores from the device. This action is irreversible. Note: simply deleting the app removes Core Data storage but may leave Keychain data behind on some iOS versions — use the in-app delete option for a complete wipe.

Can I export my health data?

Yes. Go to Settings → Privacy → Export My Data to download your full health history as JSON or CSV. The export is generated on your device and shared through the iOS share sheet — nothing is uploaded to any server.

The app can't generate an AI insight — what should I do?

Go to Settings → AI Insights and ensure your Anthropic API key is entered correctly. If you don't have a key, you can get one at console.anthropic.com.
